Greetings from Afghanistan

My name is Teddy Wade, I'm a U.S. Army combat photographer currently deployed in Afghanistan. I have close to eight years of service in the military and this is my second deployment. I previously deployed to Iraq between 2005 and 2006. In Iraq, I produced imagery from combat operations and documented the lives of thousands of Soldiers. I'm not going to lie, most of my time in Iraq was fun, but it was dangerous.  Just a little background information. I was born in Panama City, Panama and I immigrated to the United States in 2001, at the age of 21. My dad was also in the U.S. Army, so I'm fortunate enough to have dual citizenship.

I'm very interested in photography and music, those are my two passions.  I had the privilege to attended the Military Photojournalism Course at Syracuse University in 2007 and 2008. Going back to the main subject of this post, I will be blogging from Afghanistan for the next 3 to 6 months.  So far I had the opportunity to travel around the country, through different provinces including the capital, Kabul.  Afghanistan lacks pretty much everything. They have little infrastructure, high rates of unemployment, no basic economy, they pretty much depend on external help from Coalition Nations like the USA and the European Union. The country's landscape is basically Mountains everywhere and that makes many areas remotes and difficult to access. The Afghan people for the most part is friendly, but out here nobody knows who is the enemy. So I'm completely aware of that.   I will be sharing photographs and commentaries with you guys in the future. Hope that you guys enjoy my blog. Bye Teddy.  (That photograph was a self-portrait taking while on mission in the Kapisa province with the Provincial Reconstruction Team)
